OUR VISION
NBCC is the Lender of Northern Opportunity.
TAMAPTA – Building Our Future Together
The mandate of NBCC is broad and varied. At the heart of NBCC’s mandate is the requirement to support Nunavut’s business community. This is as much concerned with supporting community based sustainable economies as it is with broadly reducing poverty. Both of these objectives depend on sustainable businesses, with access to the appropriate financing to stimulate the economy and create jobs.
NBCC is also aware of the need to improve educational and training outcomes in Nunavut. This also serves to enhance the quality of Nunavut’s investment environment to ensure it is attractive enough to help Nunavut enhance its recognition in Canada and the broader global economy. For NBCC this means targeted support for curriculum aimed at supporting skills complementary to business development and sound financial management.
NBCC supports the goal of better and more diversified housing for Nunavummiut, and will continue to support the construction industry and encourage stakeholders to look to adopting new and innovative options to meet the Territory’s urgent housing needs.. Already a strong supporter of Nunavut’s tourism industry, NBCC will also continue to support those businesses involved in building a more cohesive culture and arts sector and opportunities to highlight what Nunavut has to offer.
A supporter of Nunavut’s broadband development, NBCC will work towards improving the means of connecting Nunavummiut and reducing the geographical challenges of this vast Territory. Going beyond telecommunications, NBCC sees a wealth of opportunity to help home-grown businesses participate in the expansion of its resource industry, whether in mining or harvesting, and support complementary industries and infrastructure such as the transportation network.
Aware of its limitations as a small organization, NBCC understands that to be effective it must forge strategic partnerships and work together with other economic development organizations to achieve a greater quality of life for Nunavummiut.
NBCC supports the GN’s vision of Tamapta - Building Our Future Together -- for its holistic approach to societal development. In focusing its energies on supporting community-based sustainable economies, NBCC will achieve its primary mandate.
