Headquartered in Iqaluit, Nunavut, the Nunavut Business Credit Corporation (NBCC), is the Lender of Northern Opportunity, providing credit facilities to business enterprises across the territory. As of March 31, 2025, NBCC had 52 active credit facilities totalling $19 million. In 2025, NBCC’s maximum legislative lending limit was increased from $2 million to $5 million, along with other amendments to the Nunavut Business Credit Corporation Act (Act).
NBCC is a territorial corporation of the Government of Nunavut (GN) and is governed by a Board of Directors operating at arm’s length from the GN. The Board is composed of no fewer than five and no more than twelve directors, each appointed for a term of up to three years. Currently, five of the seven directors are beneficiaries, four are women, and all three Nunavut regions are represented.
The Minister responsible is now accepting applications from individuals interested in serving on the Board of Directors.
The Minister responsible is looking for individuals from diverse professional backgrounds who demonstrate strong vision, leadership, and a commitment to supporting NBCC’s mandate. In accordance with the Act, eligible candidates must meet one of the following criteria: “an individual must have owned or managed a business enterprise in Nunavut; or have, in the opinion of the Minister responsible, business or other expertise relevant to the economy of Nunavut”.
Relevant expertise may include, but is not limited to: Business Administration, Corporate Finance, Accounting, Human Resources Management, Economic Development, or Public Administration.
